Why does finding a diet that promotes a healthy lifestyle always feel like an impossible feat? Not to mention there’s far too much searching for recipes, planning, finding fresh ingredients, prepping, and THEN cooking three meals a day, every day, seven days a week,
It reaches a point where you cave and end up going back to all of your old habits, including ordering takeout after work.
We knew fast food and badly-made, greasy tacos couldn’t sustain us for much longer. Besides, we suspected there was something else out there that would help us stick to a healthier diet.
3 of the most popular nutrition-focused meal delivery services we’ve come across in our research are
Factor, Daily Harvest, and Sunbasket. Our food and beverage editors tried all 3 to see which subscription we’d keep.
Here are our thoughts:
- All 3 offer ready-to-eat meals
- All offer plant-based meals
- All 3 offer subscription services
- All deliver to your doorstep
- Factor uses organic produce, grass-fed meat, and sustainably sourced seafood
- Daily Harvest’s smoothies have to be blended
- Sunbasket’s meals take more than 3-minutes to make
- All Factor meals are ready in 2-minutes
- Factor provides options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus add-ons
Daily Harvest offers a range of ready-to-eat meals. But many items like their grain bowls and flatbreads entail some prep – for instance, their smoothies require blending.
They make up for it when it comes to their impressive variety of recipes featuring dishes like the
Kale + Kalamata Harvest Bowl and Broccoli Rice + Dill Pilafand their meals were tasty enough that we didn’t realize we were eating anything that super healthy.
However, with each portion between 8.5-11.5 oz, we were still hungry after our Daily Harvest meals. So, unfortunately, we filled ourselves up with unhealthy snacks.
Sunbasket offers Fresh and Ready meals for specialty diets like vegetarian, paleo, gluten-free, diabetes-friendly, pescatarian, and many more. Like Daily Harvest, we appreciated that they have a weekly rotating menu and feature a wide selection of foods.
Our editors tried the
Plant-Based Sausage Scramble for breakfast and the Maple Glazed Pork Chop Over Hoppin ‘John with Collards and Pancetta for dinner However, they all look better than they actually taste. No matter how descriptive the meal is or how big the portions are, most of Sunbasket’s meals were bland and unsatisfying.
Plus, their meals cost between $ 11.99- $ 12.99. At that price, we’re tempted to fall back on takeout.
We love it that signing up for
Factor was much easier than it was for the other two. One of the first things we noticed about Factor is how transparent they are about their ingredients. Every meal has a Nutrition Facts label, so there’s no need for double-checking like there is with Sunbasket or Daily Harvest.
Factor only uses fresh ingredients from their network of trusted partners, and you can taste the freshness in each bite. Their meals are free of hormones, antibiotics, gluten, refined sugars, and GMOs.
Two office favorites are the
Jalapeño Popper Burger and the Asiago Baked Chicken After a full week of food testing, we just couldn’t believe something this delicious is also good for you!?! The folks at Factor clearly know what they’re doing.
Bonus: Every meal from Factor took exactly 2-minutes to make!
Although our food and beverage editors enjoyed a few things about Daily Harvest and Sunbasket, Factor simply checked everything off of our lists.
Factor is convenient, includes fresh ingredients, and above all tastes phenomenal. On top of that, Factor always has something new to offer.
When it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you must enjoy the food you’re eating along the way.
To put it plainly, we loved every single meal from Factor and felt satisfied enough to turn down those afternoon sodas and snacks.
If you’re looking for nutritious meals you can incorporate throughout your week, then try Factor. You will be amazed.
